The fun and gaiety of Indian celebrations continue throughout the year. The celebration of the festivals in September is a blend of tradition with enthusiasm.

1) Bathukamma
Bathukamma is a festival of flowers observed for 9 days, by the Hindu women of Telangana in India. Celebrated every year as per the Telugu version of the Hindu calendar in Bhadrapada Amavasya, also known as Mahalaya Amavasya, it generally falls in the period of September-October of the Gregorian calendar. Bathukamma is observed during the Durga Navaratri period and ends two days before Dussehra, from Mahalaya Amavasya to Durgashtmi, known as “Saddula Bathukamma” or “Pedda Bathukamma”. Boddemma is a 7 day festival which follows Bathukamma. Bathukamma ushers in Sharath Ruthu and Bodemma concludes Varsha Ruthu.

2) Garba Festival Gujarat
Garba is a folk dance which has originated from Gujarat and performed during the nine days of Navratri in praise of Goddess Durga and depicting nine different forms of Maa Durga. Garba is also known as Garbi, Garbha, and Garbha deep. These words have originated from the Sanskrit word “Garbha” which means womb of a woman and “deep” means earthen oil lamps. In short, the literal meaning of Garba is the celebration of the sanctity of a woman. This festival gives special importance to women and how they have been given the blessing of bringing life in this world. Garba is the celebration of life as in fetus from where life blossoms from the very first. It also projects the essence of divine Maa Durga or Amba. Garba takes place every year in the months of September, October or November. It is a nine-day festival celebrated during Navratri. Although, the festival celebrates womanhood; men and women equally participate in Garba and enjoy it thoroughly.

3) Ganesh Chaturthi
Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated as the birth anniversary of Lord Ganesha, the Hindu god who is believed to be powerful enough to eliminate all obstacles. Falling in the months of August and September, this is one of the festivals which Mumbaites celebrate with great zeal and enthusiasm. Lord Ganesh is regarded as the patron saint of Maharashtra and over 6000 idols are commissioned in Mumbai every year. This alone is enough to explain the spirit of Mumbai in celebrating the festival. Though Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated in Andhra Pradesh, Orissa, Pune and Karnataka, Mumbai is the most famous for its massive processions. Even the households in Mumbai celebrate the festival by installing an idol of Lord Ganesha and worshipping it for over ten days. The houses are cleaned and the idol is brought in with the family members chanting 'Shloka' or religious verses. The seven to ten days long festival ends with the 'Ganesh Visarjan' where the idols are immersed in the water; it is done as a procession with millions of people accompanying the idol along with a lot of music and dance. 4) Mysuru Dasara
Mysore Dasara is a Royal Festival Celebrating victory of Truth over Evil. Legend has it that the Goddess Chamundeeswari or Durga slew the demon Mahishasuran on Vijayadashami day. Dasara is a 10-day festival in the region culminating on Vijayadashami or tenth day. The day marks the successful conclusion of the preceding nine days. Vijayadashami is also a day of victory of the King and his subjects, be it in a battle or day-to-day governance. The preceding nine days of Navarathri have celebrations starting only after six days. The sixth day is in honour of goddess Saraswathi. Eight day is dedicated to Durga and Ninth day is for Lakshmi, goddess of wealth. On tenth day a grand spectacular Procession is held which starts from Mysore Palace and ends in Bannimantap. In Karnataka, Dasara is observed as State festival - Nadahabba, because of the celebration of the festival is steered by the Royal Family of Mysore. The royal family of Mysore performs special pooja on the occasion of Dasara. During Dasara, the entire City is gaily decorated and illuminated. The Palace and other important buildings are illuminated. Cultural programmes by famous artists are arranged in the Palace along with Sports, Wrestling, Poet's meet, Food Festival, Film Festival witnessed by a large number of people. Dasara Exhibition is arranged in the Doddakere Maidana, by the Karnataka Exhibition Authority, where the public and private sector industries, leading business establishments, Government departments put up their stalls to promote industrial and corporate business for months.

5) Onam Festival
Kerala the southernmost state of India is well known for its rich culture and traditions. The state has acquired the name Gods own country for being a diverse and beautiful state in itself. The state is blessed with a great geography the state is nurtured by the western ghats and the sea with multiple rivers flowing through the multiple town and villages of Kerala. The backwaters are dominated by the house boats which are one of the most famous tourist attractions of Kerala. When one imagines Kerala they see the backwaters the abundant banana trees stills from Malayalam movies women dressed in the white colored sarees with a golden border which are also known as Kasavusarees in the state the mogras these women wear on their heads. Most of these images you have in your brain are all seen in Kerala on the days of Onam. Onam is the festival where you will see a lot of woman in the state wearing such sarees. It is traditionally the Hindu festival of Harvest. Onam falls in the month of Chingam which technically is the first month of the Malayalam calendar and usually overlaps with the months of August and September according to the Gregorian calendar. Over the centuries it has come to be celebrated for a variety of reasons. One of them primarily being the rice harvest. However there are a lot of legends attached to this festival the most well known and most interesting one is the legend of the Mahabali.
