Kodamdesar Bhainru Ji was installed by Rao Bikaji during the first three years of his arrival from jodhpur. It is another place of worship and is situated 24 km’s from Bikaner on the highway leading to Jaisalmer.It was here Rao Bikaji, the founder of Bikaner, first choose to lay a foundation of Bikaner. But later in consultation with Napo, a Sankhla Rajput who was a great believer in omens, he chose another site. Every year a huge fair is held here in the month of Bhadrapad. Temple is built in white marble. Here are also two Sati cenotaphs.
The temple is 24 km far from the city center. Lord Bhairon is worshipped in this temple. Lord Bhairon is an incarnation of trinity Lord Shiva or Mahadev because it is believed that bhairon was born from the middle part between two eyes of Shiva. Rao Bikaji was the founder of the Bikaner city who also built the Kodamdesar Temple after leaving the Jodhpur. Bikaji rao decided to make a destination for a foundation for Bikaner City but later shifted to its present location. The beautiful and magnificent idol of lord Bairoji is kept in the center part of the temple. The temple is one of the prominent tourist place and pilgrimage center for Rajasthan and widely visited by the freshly wedded couples for blessings of lord bhairon. The temple is a popular destination for new baby’s mundan vidhi or hair shaving ceremony.
Kodamdesar Temple is dedicated to Lord Bhairon Ji, an incarnation of Lord Shiva. Born out of Bhruguti (the place in between the two eyebrows), Lord Bhairon Ji was the fierce form of Lord Shiva. One of the first establishments by Rao Bika, the Kodamdesar Temple is a unique place to visit. The Temple is completely open, having no rooms and doors. There is only a huge idol of Bhairon Ji at the centre. The entire floor is built of white marble. One can see the presence of a number of dogs in the temple complex. There is pond behind the temple.
This temple is the location for the Bhadrapad Fair, which sees local artisans and craftsmen flock to the place. The temple is visited by newly-wedded couples for seeking Lord's blessings. New born babies are also brought here for Mundan (first hair-shaving ceremony).
