Narnaul is a historic town which is located in the Mahendergarh district of Haryana. The town finds mention in the Mahabharata. It is also believed to have been the birthplace of Birbal who was one of the Ministers or Navratnas in Akbar’s Court.
Narnaul’s history is quite intriguing. This is the birth place of Sher Shah, the renowned Suri king. Here, the post of a jagirdar was held by Sheh Khan’s father, who also served his duty for Jahangir. A minting factory was constructed at this location by Akbar. The Rajputs gained command of this place, when the power of the Mughal Empire started declining. The British Government took over the administration of the place, after the 1857 revolution.
