Patnitop or Patni Top is a beautiful hill resort situated in the Udhampur District of Jammu and Kashmir. The place was originally known as 'Patan Da Talab', translated as ‘the pond of the princess’. According to a legend, the pond was used by a princess for her daily baths. The name, however, changed to Patnitop from 'Patan Da Talab' over the years.
Patnitop is a 3 hours drive from Jammu. Tall conifers are found in this place. It is an ideal spot for trekking and picnics. The pine-covered mountains can be seen. The place is serene and calm.
A few shops are found which sell the Kashmiri specialties, such as, handicrafts, embroidered wool carpets which are called Namdas and embroidered long shirts also called Phirans and other woolens. Patnitop has cold evenings. Fog covers the mountains at this time.
