Rameswaram Tourism

Rameswaram is a town on Pamban Island, in the southeast Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It’s known for Ramanathaswamy Temple, a Hindu pilgrimage site with ornate corridors, huge sculpted pillars and sacred water tanks. It is separated from mainland India by the Pamban channel and is about 40 kilometres from Mannar Island, Sri Lanka. It is in the Gulf of Mannar, at the tip of the Indian peninsula. Pamban Island, also known as Rameswaram Island, is connected to mainland India by the Pamban Bridge. Together with Varanasi, it is considered to be one of the holiest places in India to Hindus, and part of the Char Dham pilgrimage.
It is situated in the Gulf of Mannar at the very tip of the Indian peninsula. According to legend, this is the place from where Lord Rama built a bridge Ram Setu (also known as Adam's Bridge) across the sea to Lanka to rescue his consort Sita from her abductor Ravana. Both the Vaishnavites and Shaivites visit this pilgrimage centre which is known as the Varanasi of the south.

Rameshwaram, a small island in the Gulf of Mannar, connected to India just with a bridge, stands pridely with its majestic beauty and sacred places. Rameshwaram is one among of the “Char Dham” pilgrimage. Situated at the tip of Indian peninsula, it is considered as the Varanasi of South India, because Rameshwaram was the most important pilgrim center in India for both Shaivites and Vaisnavites. The Holy pilgrimage won’t get fulfilled without a pilgrimage to Rameshwaram as Benaras. Hence it got a name Benaras of South India.
