Kirti Stambh is another famous structure in Chittorgarh. It is the 22-m high tower, called the Kirti Stambh or Tower of Fame. It is built probably around the 12th century. It is a Jain Structure, built by a Jain merchant who was dedicated to Adinath, the first Jain Tirthankar (Revered Jain preacher). This tower is devoted to Digamber following of Jain religion. This fact is indicated by the naked figures of various Tirthankars, Jain Pantheons, seen on the tower. There is a narrow stairway, which gives way to the seven floors to the top. Kirti Stambh is a very prominent medieval structure in Chittorgarh. Chittorgarh was called Chittor in olden times. It was the capital of Mewar during 7th and 16th century and was ruled by Rajputs.
Chittorgarh once had many glorified forts, palaces and chattris but now most of them are in ruins by the courtesy of foreign invaders who attacked the Chittorgarh many times. Although Chittor is famous for its heroic deeds of its Rajput rulers but it was a flourishing business center also with many wealthy merchants around. Jain religion was very much followed in Rajasthan and still followed. Many followers of Jainism come to pay reverence to Lord Adinath at Kirti Stambh. Kirti Stambh is a good tourist destination also because of its architecture.
Kirti Stambh History
Built-in the 12th century by Rana Kumbha to commemorate his victory against Khilji. Tower of Fame is 30 feet wide at the base and narrow at the top to 15 feet.
Famous for the intricate carvings of Digambar, this seven-storied tower has a beautiful Adinatha statue on the second floor. One can watch speechless scenic views of Chittorgarh on moving up to the top floor.
Kirti Stambh is older than another tower in the same fort, known as the Vijay Stambha (Tower of Victory).

The wildlife sanctuary of Bassi is situated at a distance of 5kms from the Chittorgarh. This sanctuary, which sprawls over 50 sq km, is home to panthers, mongoose, wild boars and migratory birds. There are some other places of interest such as the Kalika Mata Temple, the Vijay Stambh, the Kirti Stambh, Rani Padmini’s Palace, Fateh Prakash Palace etc.
Chittorgarh is well connected to the rest of India by the Golden Quadrilateral highway system which passes through the city. The city of Chittorgarh lies by the NH 76 and 79. The state roadways have a regular bus service which can be used to reach Chittorgarh. The nearest railhead to the city of Chittorgarh is the Chittorgarh Railway Station. The nearest airport is Udaipur which is situated at a distance of 70 km from Chittorgarh.
