Siliserh Lake Palace

The Alwar- Siliserh Lake is located at a distance of about 20 kilometers from the city of Alwar and it lies on the Alwar Sariksha Road. The Siliserh Lake is a man made lake and on the bank of the lake is a beautiful palace, which has now been converted into a RTDC Hotel.

The Siliserh Lake was built on the orders of Maharaja Vinay Singh in the year 1848 A.D. The king dedicated the beautiful lake to his queen Sheela. The Siliserh Lake in Alwar is circumscribed by the magnificent slopes of the Aravalli range. Two earthen dams had been constructed in order to collect the waters of a small tributary of River Ruparel in the Siliserh Lake.

The location of the - Siliserh Lake is picturesque and it is a home to a large number of migratory birds. The tranquil waters of the Siliserh Lake twined with the Arcadian ambiance moisten the bareness of the golden deserts. A number of sprawling gardens had been constructed by the Alwar Kings around the Siliserh Lake which adds to the glamour of the place. Tourists can enjoy motorboat rides in the lake but they must be very cautious as the lake is infested with crocodiles.

History of Siliserh Lake Palace :
This Palace was built by Maharaja Vinay Singh in 1845 A.D. as a gift to his Village bride Sheela. The beautiful Siliserh Lake on the banks of which this Palace is located, is surrounded by low wooded hills of the Aravalli ranges. The lake was created in 1845 A.D. when an Earthern Dam was constructed between two hills to store the water of a small tributary of river Ruparel.

Architecture of the Lake Palace :
From the top, the Palace provides a breathtaking view of the water spread of the lake and the surrounding forested slopes. The basement of this four storied Palace leads to the water level of the lake. The Lake covers an area of about 10.5 Sq. km. when filled to its capacity. It is adorned with magnificent domed cenotaphs located on its embankment. The boating facility is available here with different kinds of boats. The tourists can also use this Lake for sailing and fishing purpose. During monsoons, a large variety of birds arrive here which include Darters and Cormorants.

Alwar Tourist Attractions

Alwar is a treat for the tourists visiting Rajasthan. The city of Alwar is also known as the Tiger gate of Rajasthan. It is well recognized for the Sariska Tiger Reserve, Bala-Quila, Bhangarh Fort, Pandu pol and other temples. The heavenly kalakand and other lip smacking dishes make it a worth visit for the foodies.

The city is nestled between the Aravali Hills. It is a city known for its rich culture and heritage. It has a great historical significance, even though not very popular among the tourists. The majestic forts and palaces, the colourful markets adorn the city.

It is one of the oldest kingdoms in Rajasthan and one of the first Rajput states to make a British alliance. Alwar is famous for its milkcake also known as the 'Alwar ka mawa'. It is a good weekend getaway from Delhi for it is a peaceful city with minimal pollution.
