Kala Ghoda Arts Festival

Kala Ghoda Arts Festival, is the country's largest multicultural festival, created to draw attention to the unique and beautiful areas in Mumbai. This Festival draws visitors in large numbers, not just from the city but from all over the country and around the world. Today, the area has institutions like the Jehangir Art Gallery, Max Mueller Bhavan, Bombay University, Elphinstone College, and David Sassoon Library around it. It is one of the most awaited Art Festivals from this part of the country.

History
The Kala Ghoda Arts Festival is one of the most significant cultural events that take place in Mumbai, the commercial capital of India and the capital of the state of Maharashtra. This colorful event is held annually in the month of February and the venue for the event is the Kala Ghoda area in Southern Mumbai. Each year the festival is held from the first Saturday in February till the next Sunday of the month. The Kala Ghoda Arts Festival is usually a nine day festival which started its journey in 1999. The festival has earned itself a place in the cultural setting of Mumbai. The organizer of this event is the Kala Ghoda Association which is a non-profit seeking institution.

Celebration
This will be the 15th Kala Ghoda Arts Festival that will take place inside a radius of a kilometer of the Kala Ghoda precinct. The festival is open to all and free of charge. The art festival offers various programmes in, theatre, visual arts, music, dance, street plays, literature, heritage walks and various workshops for children and adults. The Festival attracts thousands of people from all over the city and world to witness the various events over the course of the festival. Funds raised from the festival are contributed towards the restoration and maintenance of the area.

The Kala Ghoda Arts Festival exhibits wonderful display of art by world renowned artists under the visual arts section. The Literature Section has book launches, workshops and discussions with well-known authors. From classical to contemporary and from Indian Folk to International, there are many music and dance performances by notable artists and groups. There are also theatre and cinema programmes during the festival. The culinary section is also popular as well known chefs provide live food demonstrations on varied cuisines. There are also heritage walk organized to give people an insight into the city's heritage.

Other important temple fairs include Changdeo fair at the Markandeya Temple near Edlabad, Kiran Utsav at the Mahalaxmi Temple at Kolhapur, Rathyatra at the Kalaram Temple in Nashik, and the Shrirama Rathotsava fair and the Navaratra Mahalaxmi fair at the Navaratra Mahalaxmi temple in Jalgaon. The Khuldabad Urs is a festival for Muslims; celebrated for five days. Mount Mary Festival, which is held every year at Bandra, Mumbai attracts huge crowds of the city. The Snake festival at Battis Shirala town too attracts large number of tourists from India and aboard.
