Banke Bihari Temple

Banke Bihari Temple is one of the most famous places to visit in Bharatpur. It’s dedicated to Lord Krishna and its architecture is inspired by the Banke Bihari Temple located in Vrindavan. Bankey Bihar is another name for Lord Krishna and this one is among the seven temples dedicated to the lord. The main hall of the temple is decorated with the captivating idols of Lord Krishna along with his companion Radha.

The structure of the temple has got a Rajasthani style of architecture and is around 150 years old. The idols are dressed beautifully and are adorned with attractive accessories and jewelry. There is also a verandah outside the main hall and the walls, as well as ceilings, display a series of beautiful paintings. These narrate the childhood incidents from the life of Lord Krishna. Every morning and evening, a large number of devotees visit the temple and perform prayers with continuous chants.

The lord is offered with a unique kind of sewa in the form of Shringar, Rajbhog, and Shayan. In Shringar, the idol is bathed, dressed, and decorated with jewelry. In Rajbhog, the feast is offered for the Lord Banke Bihari and is distributed as Prasad amongst the devotees. Lastly, the Shayan Sewa is performed to put the lord to sleep.
